Well, I am settled (for now) up here in Castle Rock, CO, dwelling in the basement of my friend's house, Mike Vinson. We arranged for me to build out his basement for him over the next few months in exchange for food and free rent. Living in Dallas, it would be impossible for me to finish the things I need to before leaving for Guatemala in September. I realized as I packed, that I had lived in Rockwall, TX for all 27 of my years on this planet. I went to 3 churches in Rockwall during my life. I owned 2 small business in Rockwall over the last 6 years. Everywhere I went in Rockwall I ran into a friend or customer. Living in Rockwall has been easy for me for these and so many other reasons, but paradoxically, it's these same reasons that I am excited about being in Castle Rock. Though I dearly love all my friends & customers, it will be nice to go somewhere that I am utterly unknown. This is going to be an entirely new experience for me, and that is exciting. I am anxious to see who God brings across my path. I was reading today in the April issue of Tabletalk magazine and came across a quote that perfectly describes where my thinking is right now. "I always assume that if God has placed me in a certain relationship, in a certain work place, and a certain neighborhood, He must sovereignly have chosen for them to hear the Gospel." This quote by Rev. Richard D. Phillips comes from his interview concerning his book Jesus The Evangelist in which he shares how no matter where Jesus went, He shared the Gospel with people in their language, in a way they would understand, and formed relationships with these people anywhere His path led Him. It's my hope to do the same as I make new friends here in Castle Rock, and eventually Guatemala. Over the next few weeks I will be looking toward the south expectantly, but not for a minute overlooking the beauty and grandeur all around me here in the Rockies.
