B.J. Murrey - World Orphans, Central America

Well, it's officially almost official. I am in the beginning stages of moving to Guatemala!

Back in June of this year (2007), I committed to a full-time role in Latin America. My friend Michael works for a Christian Mission organization called World Orphans, & they were looking for an “Area Liaison” for Central America. So I asked him “When do I leave?” Most know my deep love for this part of the world & people, & remember many stories I have told you about them. Well, now it is time for me to live & serve there – at least for the next 3-5 years. Right now I am looking at starting between September 2008

My task as a World Orphans representative will be to identify churches that already own property in areas that have a high population of orphans. Working with these churches, World Orphans will send them the money to build a church-based orphan home immediately next to the church building. The goal here is to provide a home for the fatherless – a place where they will get to know their Heavenly Father & experience living in a real home as a family. As the orphans lives are changed, the city taking notice will always connect the positive changes coming from the orphans, to the church that it sits beside. I will be on the ground, based in Honduras, & identifying future sites for more orphan homes throughout Central America, while checking in on the existing homes to guarantee the ongoing support & operation of each church & each home.
